New Comic Wednesday: an untitled comic

New Comic Wednesday: an untitled comic

Welcome back to New Comic Wednesday! Once a month on a Wednesday I will post a short story here on the blog for free! Most stories will be 4-8 pages in length but I'm not ruling out longer entries if the story warrants.

All new, never before published comics this month! I've been wanting to do more experimental comics as part of my surreal strips. Generally those are "Grasshopper" stories, but as you can see this time around it's more of a progression than story. Still, I use these stories to experiment visually, using different inking styles that I generally don't use day to day in my comics work. Next month will see a return to my more standard approach to storytelling and the return of three of my favorite characters.
Check out most of my published works at King Bone Press. We offer both digital and print comics.
Any feedback and sharing of the story is much appreciated.
Thank you. Please Enjoy

Not Dailies: 2016 Sketches March Week 5

Welcome back to Not Dailies my little almost daily drawing project. My intention is to do what I can during the week, between comic pages and art projects, and then post scans of them here the following week.

If you want to see them in real time I photograph them and post them on my twitter account @slurmo and instagram kingbonepress as they are completed.

This week's drawings are all done on sketch paper. You'll notice some bleed, saturation, and less smooth inkwash transitions. It's thirsty paper.

MARCH WEEK 5
(week ending 04/02/2016)
All illustrations are 4.5" x 6" ink, pen, and wash on bristol board or sketch paper.

Thank you. See you next week.

Dec 2008 - Dec 2014 or "I ain't special".

Sometimes you think that you'll never get started but then look back at what you've accomplished.  I can't encapsulate in a short blog post exactly how much time I wasted before starting b-one.  My work was never good enough to even TRY to make a comic. So I did what most of us do, I waited, procrastinated, delayed attempting to start the venture for years. YEARS. All because "I wasn't good enough yet". Well, no shit. There's no way to improve at anything by avoiding the task that you wish to be better at. You have to work. WORK. It's always going to be work. Nothing will be handed to you. You'll find your work cringe worthy at first. Keep working. Over time you'll learn what works, what doesn't and the one constant is the work. The process. Soon you'll find that you aren't so ashamed of your work. You may even feel a little bit of pride. Either way, looking back at the past seven years and seeing b-one become a reality is really satisfying. Am I proud? Nah, but I do have a sense of accomplishment. You can do it too. It'll be work, but you can do it. Just stop daydreaming about that great American Novel, that concept album, t-shirt line, or comic book and start working. It's that first step of a marathon, or first brick in the wall that people talk about. DO NOT WAIT TEN YEARS. I DID. Take that first step. Get some work done. We can't wait to see what you come up with.
Oh, yeah. Those of you that have been holding out for b-one #8 print edition, the wait is almost over. Sending them over to distro this week.
Sincerely,
Bobgar "Shut up and get to work" Ornelas

b-one #8 - NOW AVAILABLE!

Hey, what do you know I finished b-one #8. Only the digital version is available now on the KBP store here.

Print to come in mid January.

Any way that you buy it, it's still was a blast to make. A long time coming, but it's been well received from the few review copies that I sent out. Enjoy.

Thank you,

b-one FUNZIES!

b-one FUNZIES! Uh, oh. Not another author draws himself into a comic strip! I used to do it a whole lot around the turn of the century. Wow, that makes me sound really old. Anyway, I used to do egotrip comics online back then. Maybe I'll dust off the old back up hard drive and see if I can locate them. They were a hoot, and were also a four panel strip.

I like this strip even if I'm not fat enough in it. Nor bald enough. One of these days I'll get it right. A word of advice to all if you do autobio comics; don't gain weight once you learn to draw yourself! Or go bald. Or listen to any of my advice.

Please enjoy responsibly,

b-one FUNZIES!

As promised here is the second b-one FUNZIES. This time around it spotlights the ever morphic, enigmatic grasshopper. He is seen most commonly in my b-one comics published by King Bone Press.

There's not much to say about this one, take what you will from it. There will be more b-one FUNZIES in the future, but I'm not ready to commit to a publishing schedule for that just yet. Just know that when they appear, they will appear here on Wednesdays. I mean, that is new comic book day, right? Why not get a free KBP taste while I toil away at the drawing board for the long form books?

Free equals fun.

Please enjoy responsibly,
Bobgar Ornelas
