Commissions and Original Artwork

There was a little hiccup in the delivery of the Thor for the charity art auction and was not included there. Unfortunatly it's come back to me. I've decided to add it to my storenvy shop.

slurmo.storenvy.com/

I know that I haven't posted anything in quite a while. I've just completed all the interiors to b-one #8 ! It won't be long until the issue is available for purchase! Once that is complete I'll have more time to post illustrations and comics here.

Thanks for the support,

Commissions and Original Artwork

Seems like it has been a while since I posted. Lots of behind the scenes work on I.C.E. (Indie Comix Expo) as announced by KBP this week. I'm also working on cover and design work for a new, not yet unannounced series, plus the usual progress on the next issue of b-one. So what am I doing posting here, instead of working there? Well Jon Westhoff is involved with a nonprofit charity auction and I did this piece for them. A fun distraction from the grind. Hope ya'll dig it.

b-one #8 - process

Hello all. Just a quick little post here. Some of you may already know that I've struggled a bit with the writing aspect of the next issue of b-one. Some of the delays are King Bone Press publishing duty related, that and artwork on Bandthology III and Bullet Proof Chicken: Nuggets so I can't say that it hasn't been a fun ride. In any case I'm back and working diligently on b-one #8. Here's a bit of process, progress on the first Stonebrook story of the issue.

Please enjoy responsibly,

Hardcore Days

Back in the day I was in a couple of hardcore bands; Deciding Factor and Egotrip. Both with lifelong friend and guitarist Rick and a few good friends. Looking up zine, flyer, band merch artwork in my boxes of original art and digital files I decided to release all the Egotrip recordings. I packaged them with original artwork from the time. The EP was part of a split CD so I repurposed flyer artwork for the cover. A buck for each demo or EP. There ain't no profit in it, it just pays for the online storage.
Yeah, I'm being a bit reminiscent today, but some of my favorite memories are from these days. Great shows, great music, great friends. Check it out if you're so inclined.

You can buy the music along with art, prints, buttons and other junk at my store here.

Hardcore Days

A while back I was in a hardcore band. That one didn't pan out as is usually the case with hxc bands of the time, so another band was formed. Nothing groundbreaking or interesting there. We had some great shows, we had some less than stellar shows. What was cool was creating content for our websites, and hxc zines, and flyers. Here's a few comics and comic style illustration that I did for the band and a couple of zines. The two color illos were recolored by me this week. A couple of these were posted as full color or printed in black and white.

I'll post more of this type of work as I find it and scan it. It'll be under the title of Hardcore Days but not all of these are going to be hxc scene inspired. Some illustrations and logos were done for pop punk bands or death metal bands. Some of it I'm not too proud of but it is a part of my life and it's fun to revisit the old days.

Hope you had fun with this trip down memory lane as well. New b-one comic magazine is underway. Look for new b-one FUNZIES web comics next week (if all goes according to plan).

Please enjoy responsibly,

Comix Rx: Check these people out!

Some of you may know that I host a comics podcast (Earth 2), some may not. On the show we do a segment called Comix Rx that is intended to highlight a comic that may be below your radar. Since I have been pimping the opening of my store I thought that it was only fair to help out a few of my friends. This is by no means a complete listing, there will be subsequent postings under the Comix Rx banner.
While the following have all worked with King Bone Press, they do so much on their own. Harry Moyer has curated and compiled three FREE western anthologies, Saddle Sore and has a unique run of mini comics. The Brothers O'Briant have a plethora of web comics and the all ages print series MAPS published through their Strips4 imprint.  John Boren is the hardest working man in non sequential art! He's always on a quest to do the next drawing and I'm happy to say that I have seen him impress me time and time again with the growth of his art. A little birdy told me that he is working on a sequential story so stay tuned.
So here are your links to free stuff and their stores. Take a gander and if so inclined please support the true independents.
Thank ye,
Bobgar Ornelas

slurmo.storenvy.com now open!

Hey everyone, I opened up a store to sell original artwork, prints, pins and other miscellanea that isn’t a direct product of King Bone Press.  Go to the KBP store for all things KBP and go to my store for the sketches that I post on these blogs.  I’ll add sketches and artwork once a week to start off and depending on how things pan out either taper it off or add more products like the prints and buttons. I’ll be drawing this stuff regardless; it’s up to you as to whether I get the art produced as merchandise.

Well, thanks for reading this and thanks for your interest in my store.
You can find it here slurmo.storenvy.com/

Artwork Before and After: Bandthology III Edition

As many of you already know King Bone Press's third installment of our music focus anthology Bandthology was released on Comixology this week. Those that do not own the print copy may not have noticed the small cover alterations that were made to the cover.  Comixology suggested that we remove some images from the cover and interior.  Luckily I was the artist that drew the cover to this particular issue so as co-publisher it was actually an easy fix. We did not have to contact anyone and I had all the files handy.

Here's a before and after shot of the cover.  As you can see a t-shirt and a poster have been altered.

All three volumes of Bandthology are available digitally via Comixology here.

Volumes 2 and 3 of Bandthology are available in print from King Bone Press here.

Volume 1 of Bandthology is currently out of print and it's all because of good people like you that supported us.

b-one FUNZIES!

Hey look! It's an all new thirteen year old comic! I rediscovered some of my old art while cleaning out my shed and found a thumbnail for a web strip that I never drew out right. Here's both. So you get new and old all rolled into one.

I still stand by the sentiment of the original. Don't try this at home or anywhere else.

High School Drawings!

Hello all and welcome back to another edition of "High School Drawings!"  This not so hot little number was drawn sometime in 1993. I found a box of drawings and story pages most from 1993-1995ish. Not a lot of good stuff in there, but I did like this one. Hard to believe there was a time where I would get anything, felt tips markers, sharpies, red ball point pens and a typewriter to do a drawing. On newsprint, no less! There's even paste-up on the Cliff Steele caption box.

I colored it to bring a bit of a modern look to it. I darkened the hell out of the background because let's face it, it's abysmal. I scanned some weathered newsprint to give it that old look of the original while making the blacks pop with upping the threshold.

Pens, markers, ink on newsprint. Image area 11" x 17"

Yup, I was a big Morrison Doom Patrol fan at the time. It was a revelation.

b-one FUNZIES!

b-one FUNZIES! I must have apes on the brain!

Has it really been three months since I last posted a b-one FUNZIE? Unfortunately it has been that long. Fortunately, I have been updating the blogs with other artwork in the meantime. Why take so much time in between strips? Well, I was working on a sequel to last year's Bulletproof Chicken. This time around I decided to color my two stories myself. I learned a whole lot, but of course it was time consuming. It's the busy season at the day job and it doesn't leave me much room to complete more of my King Bone Press commitments.

For more info on Bulletproof Chicken: Nuggets and other KBP books check the website here.

Ape not kill ape.

Ah, Koba you magnificent bonobo. I have mixed feelings about this piece. I had a great time drawing it but I think that the mashup of Koba and Carmen Miranda of the Copacabana is a little too subtle. I didn't want it to be over the top, but it seems that there's something missing. Probably citrus fruit.

I'm getting more comfortable coloring and employed a few new techniques (for me) on this piece.

There was also this little mistake when I accidentally opened up a lower layer when coloring. you can see a little bit of the process here with the flat colors. I liked they way it looked so I saved a copy to post here.

#LOSH (Legion of Super-Heroes) Sketch Cards 4

LOSH (Legion of Super-Heroes) Sketch Cards 2.5” x 3.5”

Pitt Pens on cardstock

Tyroc - 06/2014
Colossal Boy - 07/2014
Light Lass - 06/2014
Brainiac 5- 07/2014

I’m trying to get a sketch card drawn during break each day at the day job. Some are better than others, but with the Legion there’s almost no limit to characters to draw.
